Detailed Itinerary
DAY 1 : Nairobi – Aberdare National Park
On arrival in Nairobi, our driver guide will pick you up in the early hours of the morning and proceed to Aberdare National Park. You will arrive at Aberdare Country Club just in time for lunch and thereafter proceed to The Ark Lodge for check in and a short rest in the afternoon. Later on in the afternoon at approximately 15h30, you will proceed for an afternoon game drive in Aberdare National park till evening. Return to the lodge for dinner and retire for the night. Dinner & overnight at The Ark Lodge on Full Board Basis.
Aberdare National Park is situated around the Aberdare Mountain ranges, East of The Great Rift Valley & is approximately 100 kilometers from Nairobi City. It is stretched over over different types of terrain varying from 2,000 metres (6,600 feet) to 4,000 meters (13,000 feet). The park was established in 1950 to conserve and protect the eco-system within the area. It is home to over 250 bird species and a good number of wild animals. Some of the bird liife that can be found in the park include Jackson’s Spurfowl, Sparrowhawk, African Fish Eagle, Plovers among others. Its a great place to enjoy sightseeing of wild animals including some of the Big 5 such as Lions and Leopards as well as other wild animals that include Elephants, Olive Baboons, Black & White Colobus monkeys & Sykes monkeys, Elands, Waterbucks, Cape Bufallos and many more.
DAY 2 : Aberdare National Park – Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast, you will depart Aberdare National Park and head towards Lake Nakuru, arriving in good time for lunch at Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge. Thereafter, you will have an afternoon game drive until sunset. Overnight will be at Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge on Full board basis.
Lake Nakuru National Park is one of the best national parks in Kenya given that it has one of the Rift Valley soda Lakes i.e. Lake Nakuru. It is most famous for the colonies of flamingos that live on the shores of the Lake. Apart from Flamingoes, a number of wild animals and birds that inhabit the dense woodlands in the park. They include Lions, Cheetahs, Zebras, Giraffes and Rhinos among others.
DAY 3: Lake Nakuru National Park – Maasai Mara Game Reserve
Departure from Lake Nakuru will be after breakfast arriving at Maasai Mara in good time for lunch. Take a short rest in the afternoon before having your game drive at 15h30 returning to your camp after sunset. Meals and overnight at Tipilikwani Mara Camp on Full board.
The Maasai Mara Reserve lies in Southwest Kenya, approximately 280 km West of Nairobi and is named after the traditional inhabitants of the area, the Masai. It borders the Serengeti to the South. The terrain is primarily open savannah grassland that is in places broken up by rocky outcrops, small valleys and clumps of acacia trees and some forest around the rivers. There are 3 main rivers; Sand River (seasonal), Talek River and Mara River. Talek River and the Mara River meet in the centre of the park and continue as the Mara River. It is famous for its wild cats and of course, the annual migration. It is also a great place for birding, seeing larger animals and game.
DAY 4: Explore the Maasai Mara National Reserve
You will have another day’s taste of life in Mara, a place rich with wildlife. At 07h30, you will depart for full day game drive with packed lunch beginning with early morning views which provide one of the best sightings of wildlife in Maasai Mara. Meals and overnight at Tipilikwani Mara Camp on Full board.
You have an option of doing an early morning game drive before breakfast at 06h30 and an afternoon game drive at 15h30 or depart for a full day game viewing with picnic lunch that will take you to the Mara River to see the hippos and the crocodiles.
Maasai Mara Game Reserve is an extension of Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and a home of the annual 7th Wonder of the world; the wildebeest migration. There is an abundance of animals in the park such as elephants, giraffes, and a variety of gazelle species and zebra. You will get to experience the rich wildlife courtesy of the Big 5 animals as well as other wildlife species such as Giraffes, Buffalos, Gazelles and Hyenas among others. Also, you will get to enjoy both the sunrise and sunset over the beautiful Mara Plains which is a sight to behold. Mara is also the Maasai country and one is likely to see the Maasai Morans herding their cattle.
DAY 5: Maasai Mara Game Reserve – Nairobi
You will have an early breakfast at the camp and thereafter, depart for Nairobi and arrive at JKIA in time for your flight back home.
